You can add a sweet little touch to your fridge or magnet board with these cute little magnets. I had made a crappy version of this a while back and I decided I should upgrade! You only need minimal skill and some colorful clay to make them! For this post I decided to use a piece of pretty scrapbook paper from the stacks and piles of paper in my basement :).
Get yourself some round little magnets, any good craft store should have them. I got a whole bunch inexpensively at JoAnn's.
Oooh! I've been waiting to use all this clay.
Oh and also get some nice base clay. I thought golden brown vanilla cupcakes were about this color.
Put some of your clay directly on the magnets,
Now roll your color out in a thin strip.
Mine was 4 inches, but I definitely did not use all of it for the swirl.
This is really helpful!: Put a dot in the middle to make your swirl extra tall and delicious looking!
PERFECT!
This is my completed cupcake ready to venture in the oven.
Perfect swirls! Well, some are a little wonky but it gives them character :).
And they're complete (for now)! Now just put it in the oven, gosh it sounds so easy and for you it probably is, but I have an irrational fear of burning my skin. I might have been traumatized by my various hot-glue incidents, and that is why when dealing with the oven, I take extra caution with mitts, towels, gloves or whatever. I cooked them with the magnets in and it worked out just fine.
Ok so when you're done get your aluminum foil out and cut small strips:
I cut a thick strip and folded it in half so it was sturdy. Try not to get wrinkles in it but, thats almost impossible. I used heavy duty foil, but metal strips might work better.
Now wrap the strip around your cupcake, it hides the magnet! I used tacky glue to hold it down.
Here they are with their little wrappers all on:
Yum...
Now I probably don't even need to say it but I love Mod Podge, not because it sounds cool (but it does), because it works, and it works well!
After coating with the dimensional magic it added a shine and made it look a little realistic. More like the glossy frosting on most cupcakes.
The magnets cam on two magnetic disks. It would be perfect to put some lace around it to make it look like a cupcake tray. Sadly I don't have any lace or anything and I am looking at it right now, that plain sad little tray of uncoolness.
The blue one ended up like extremely wonky and weird, my favorite is the yellow since I did it last it turned out perfect! Now hang on your refrigerator or in your magnet board. These would be neat in a cupcake shop or something too! Thanks,
Ty
