I just discovered the art of felting recently and it is great. I like it because anyone can do it, kids will love it! I mean I am still technically a kid (one more year until teen-hood). This is what you could make in under 5 minutes:
They are these cute little fluffy balls. I don't know what it is about these things, maybe just the smallness is what makes them great! To make these you will need wool roving. Its the same stuff that I used for the hair in this pet rock tutorial and it is sold in the yarn sections of most craft stores. I guess this is the other use for it. Ok so to start rip off a little part, it shouldn't be very much.
Roll the strand into a loose ball:
Now rip a couple long strands from the roving and wrap them around the ball to shape it. Now get two small bowls, fill one with warm water and soap. Fill the other with cold water and ice.
Put the rounded ball in the warm water. Keep it in long enough to absorb the water. Then take it out and shape it. Repeat this about 10-15 times. Until it becomes very firm and you notice the fibers start to become closer.
Put into the cold water. All of the soap that magically helped in some way comes out and leaves you with the almost finished product:
Now take the ball out of the water and set on a towel to dry. The smaller ones dry in about 10 minutes to a half-an-hour, any that are thicker than an inch should dry for about an hour. Here what they look like when they are completely done:
I also used them in my other project. They were just decorative but added a cool textural element to the piece the pic is here. So I'm so excited about using these in other projects too. Hope you like it as much as I do!
