I absolutely love pet rocks and I am giving them to my cousins for Christmas (they make great presents, or at least I think so). All you need to make these are (of course) rocks, I found that as long as they have a smooth surface somewhere it will work. Plus, you need:
- Paint Pens/ Sharpies (any color, but make sure you have black)
- Wool Roving or any color yarn
- Mod Podge
I know this looks really simple...and it is. But thats what I like about it :).
I started with the eyes, just a simple dot , i added colors to each eye so they are all a little different. You can see some pink cheeks are on some of them. I ended up not using the brown rock in the bottom corner, it kind of resembles a moose.
This picture shows me mod-podging the wool onto the rocks. I think it adds so much character to the rocks. I did this on a plastic bag (though I have some uses for those). Here they are with their "hair" attached and for me it dried pretty fast. The only long part of this project was peeling all the mod podge off my fingers! story to go along with each of them. Please E-mail me any of your results if you ever make or see any cool pet rocks:)
Those turned out really great! Too funny.:)
ReplyDeleteThe one with the straight mouth is my favorite.
I absolutely LOVE these! Isn't it interesting how much personality they each seem to have?
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say that I am new here, and I absolutely LOVE your blog! I am going to make some pet rocks today! I love little boxes (for some weird reason) and these pet rocks give me the perfect reason to use them. I will send little happy rocks to friends in the mail in lieue of greeting cards now! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteOh. Question: Do you end up Mod-Podging the entire rock? Or just where the wool roving is? I am going to try this today!
ReplyDeleteI just mod podged where the wool roving is, I think if you mod podged the whole rock it would be harder to see the face since it might be too shiny.
